My Dog Storm is in ICU due to Liguori's lack of care & toxic level of prescribed medications

After he prescribed toxic levels of what he said was a more modern medicine (Valproc Acid) to treat Epilepsy than what my previous/now back to current vet- Storm's liver almost failed because of the dangerous levels of medication Frank Liguori, DVM of Babylon Animal Hospital prescribed.

When I brought Storm in 12/27/06 - for vomiting & diarrhea ; which happened to follow having 2 Grand Mal Seizures on Monday Christmas Day-Liguori's lack of bed side manor really emerged-None- He is Horrible as a Doctor and should not be practicing . His associate Dr.Jones injected Storm with 4 medications and drew blood to be sent for 2 lab tests. When I tried to question the nature of the exorbitant charges of $501.00 - after resisting to talk to me- I found my way into the back office and found the coward Frank in his office. He said if I had a problem with paying the $500 - I should have gave my dog an antacid and waited 15 minutes to then put his seizure medication down his throat. Nice - huh?
The scary part about this is that when I Googled Valproic Acid - the number one severe side effect listed is vomitting and dirreaha- As a practiciner that just increased his dose of Valproic acid to 2000 mg per day -the day before that he would have thought to check the side effects of something he prescribed.
Then he also had the nerve to fire me up more by saying : "do you know how much time in total we have talked on the phone in the past 2 weeks? I expressed not too much out of the ordinary since Storm had 3 Grand Mal seizures in one week and has been throwing up for 15 hours - at the time.
He has the worst bedside manor - I have ever experienced. I currently have 5 animals and had a Golden Retriever that lived until 16. So I have had my share of witnessing true care and concern. Now today 12/29 - Storm is in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at a "Specialists" Hospital- Storm(Weimeraner) has raging pancrease and his liver is enlarged. Frank sent me home the other day making it seem as if I was overreacting- and here within 24 hours my love of my life Storm is fighting for his life.
Please, please, please take my nightmare as a learning experience and stay far away from Frank Liguori's - it is all about business and making money for him and nothing to do with concern and care. He also owns Dune Point in Cherry Grove - so beware about patronizing someone like him that should not be in any type of customer service business.

~Storm's mom.

Dr Ligouri has treated many of my dogs with exellent results. Our pug Mira had seziors and we thought she was going to die and 3 years later she is still hear. Maybe you should change your post heading to reflect the fact that the crooks at the specialty place charged you so much.

He has been great with me and my dogs and cats for 18 years. He is genuinely concerned and sincere.
I think your story is not!

They are disgusting the Vet let my friends dog die because "he had to go home, as everybody has lives" he would not stay to in the office to keep the dog stabilized, my friends dog died in his arms as the vet made him take the dog and leave. DR. Death is what he is called in Suffolk county.

I am attaching a terrible story that happened to me at the Babylon Animal Hospital in Lindenhurst. I also attached an article written by the Lindy Patch below as well as Regret A Vet. Nothing will bring Nugget back but I am spreading awareness to avoid another family to suffer this tragedy. http://lindenhurst.patch.com/groups/around-town/p/lindenhurst-man-says-his-dog-died-after-animal-hospital-insisted-on-closing

I am contacting you regarding a terrible tragedy that happened to my Yorkie (Nugget) while in the care of Babylon Animal Hospital in Lindenhurst. On Monday 03/24/14 I was home and Nugget was fine. I noticed she was breathing slightly different so I already had an apt with the vet for my mothers dog for 6p.m. so I decided to bring Nugget along to get her checked out. I arrived at the vet at 6pm on the March 24th. We were brought into the exam room at about 6:30. The placed Nugget on the table checked her temp and weight and all was ok. They said the Dr. will be in shortly. Nugget sat on my lap with no issues while we waited. Dr. Andrew Lopez said he did not like the way she was breathing so he wanted to do a chest x-ray to see what is going on. I handed my dog to the Dr. with no worries. In about 10 minutes the Dr. returned and said I have terrible news your dog has an enlarged heart and also went into cardiac arrest. I immediately screamed in horror as my dog was playing only 1 hr ago. He said we revived her but we don’t think she will make it.They walked me to the back and there she was in an incubator breathing heavily but alert. She was moving around the incubator with an iv in her little paw. They showed me the x-ray that did show she had an enlarged heart. They said they gave her a drug Lasix that will remove the fluid from her lungs so she can breathe again. Here is where the story turns real tragic. They told me she needs 24hr care at an emergency clinic and they are closing soon. The nearest one is 20 minutes away. I told them there is no way I would make it there with the dog in this condition. I begged Dr.Lopez & Dr. Biedermann to stay open as Nugget was in the incubator breathing well and maybe in a few hrs. she would be stable enough for me to move her and make the 20 min trip to the 24hr vet. He stayed opened till 8:15p.m. and said we have to leave. To my disbelief they opened the incubator and removed cutting off her oxygen supply and removed her from the IV and at that time I knew I had no choice but to remove Nugget immediately. I picked up Nugget and raced to the door to try to make the 20 min trip. I ran out the front door but by the time I fastened my seat belt she died in my arms. I ran back to the front door with my limp dog in hands and it was locked. I banged on it and the opened and rushed her to the back to try to revive her but it was too late my little baby was gone. I just cannot understand how a vet could force me to leave with such a sick animal. They even had to nerve to charge me an additional for them trying to revive her after they took her out of the incubator and sent me on my way. I don’t have children and Nugget was the closest to me having a child. I call the Dr Lopez and asked him why he could not stay for a few hrs.longer as my dog was getting better and desperately needed to be kept in the incubator longer. His answer was we all have lives and had to go home at home. My dog was playing Monday afternoon and now I am waiting for a box of her ashes. Just why could the animal hospital not stay open for my sick baby rather than throw me to the streets. Why could not Dr.Lopez or Beidermann either stay or call the owner Dr. Liguori to ask advice. My dog suffered and did not deserve this. She needed to stay put in the incubator maybe just a few more hours. I visited there website and their motto says they treat your pet like their own. Really?? Please share my story so no other family has to go through this.
Sincerely,

Vince

Vinny, I am sorry for your loss, i know and understand how you feel, we have had to put down 8 cats due to oral cancer and two that were blocked. I don't know anything about Babylon Hospital, but i do know alot about Dr Andrew Lopez. I only came about this because i was searching for Dr Lopez. We used Dr Lopez when he was at East Meadow, and then found him at Manetto Hill. i have been searching for him and found these posts which really hurt me.
My wife loves animals and at one time we had 12 feral cats, feeding them is expensive, let alone taking them to a vet, who is out to make money.
Dr Lopez is a vet who cares about the animal and not to line his pocket with your money. My wife would bring the cats to him and he would help her with the bill, knew that money was the issue and gave his best diagnosis, he would charge her for the medication and waive the office visit. He cared about the animal.
Does any one realize what the condition the dog had prior to coming to the animal hospital ( an enlarged heart and had gone into cardiac arrest) pretty terminal, delaying the sad outcome would have been more pain for the dog itself.
Like Adam said, there are two sides to every story. I love animals just as much as everybody else, but theres a limit as to what man can do to save a dog (or human) life. Dr Lopez must have known that there was no good outcome and was trying to make the loss as quick/painless as possible, delaying it might have been worse for the dog and the owner? But we never hear "that" side of things.. I feel bad for the owner as losing a pet is sad, but to start bashing the vet right away without knowing all the facts isn't right either. If we all just started bashing someone based on one person's story, we'd find ourselves back where we started when we first found this nation, killing others based on one person's opinion...
Dr Lopez is a great Vet and truly cares about his patients (your pet ) and if there is anything he can do for them he would. I am dying to find where he is practicing now. If anyone knows i'd appreciate it and so would my pets
